I have MLB & WNBA picks to share today. I struck out with the Knicks on Monday night in game 3 of the NBA Finals, had success with Knicks spreads earlier in this finals series, but it wasn’t my night. I’m performing well with MLB & WNBA so far this season. MLB went 2-1 last night with paid readers, and I’m currently 25-15 (+6.92u) w/ WNBA. Be responsible with your betting, anything can happen. 1. Rangers vs Royals

• Royals starting pitcher Stephen Kolek is elite at limiting baserunners, excellent 0.97 WHIP at the moment. Rangers started Nathan Eovaldi has regressed this season, but his splitter/curveball mix still give him an edge against a Royals lineup that lacks power. Winds are blowing out in Kansas City stadium today, but that’s already baked into the total line.

1. Atlanta Dream vs Chicago Sky

• This Sky defense has been terrible at home this season, where they’re 0-5 ATS so far. They allow their opponents to over 90 points per game when playing in Chicago, with a league worst home defensive rating of 109.7. Their perimeter defense is the main culprit & I think this Dream backcourt will take advantage.

2. Dallas Wings vs Minnesota Lynx

• Meeting of two top-3 teams tonight in the Commissioner’s Cup. Both teams are top-2 in net rating & offensive rating a full month into the season, but the Lynx are much better defensively (Lynx 1st in d-rating, Wings 9th). They force a ton of turnovers and can be lethal in transition offensively. Specifically, I have concerns about this Dallas backcourt defensively. My model has this line at -6.5.

3. Phoenix Mercury vs Golden State Valkyries

• This isn’t the same Mercury team we saw reach the WNBA Finals last season, not even close. They have one of the worst perimeter defenses in the league. Their stars Alyssa Thomas & Kahleah Copper are not 100% healthy. The Valkyries LEAD the league in 3-point % by a wide margin, currently hitting 44% of their threes. Also, I don’t think Phoenix will be able to generate enough quality offense against a well-constructed Golden State defense tonight.

NBA PICKS TODAY

Huge game 3 in the finals tonight. People seem to be conflicted about this one. Spurs or Knicks? Here are my thoughts.

First off, I backed Knicks in both games 1 & 2. Wasn’t impressed with what I saw/heard from key Spurs players after they won game 7 vs OKC in terms of their mindset & the youth of their roster. The mystique/aura surrounding Wemby is legit, he’s on path towards being one of the all-time greats, but he’s too young to be the engine of a title-winning team. This is the learning arc of the Spurs’ development timeline. They broke through & won the western conference, but they’re playing a team that’s literally destroyed the competition in the Knicks.

This Knicks squad has defied every letdown & opponent bounce-back theory in the book. The Spurs shouldn’t have been -180 favourites before this finals series started. Knicks defeated their opponents during the playoffs this year by an average margin of 17.6 points per game. They’ve defeated the closing spread by an average of +14.9 points during this run.

They didn’t celebrate winning the eastern conference finals as if it was the actual finals after sweeping the Cavs. They sounded focused & didn’t want the moment to be celebrated. Cavs were legit and would’ve been competitive against the Spurs, but the Knicks made it look easy during that series, causing people to forget they played a good team. Contrast that with Wemby saying his team struggled to come down from the high of defeating OKC & you’re quickly reminded of his/their inexperience.

There’s a lot to like about this Spurs squad. Wemby is a true differentiator, Stephon Castle & Dylan Harper are future all-stars & they have an excellent coaching staff. I think Wemby will win at least 2 titles in his career, but that doesn’t include this year. I get it, people want the Spurs to win partly because they want to see a long series. Same people also think the league wants the same thing, but does that guarantee it will happen? Remember, OKC Thunder were missing 2 of their top 4 scorers. Timbrerwolves were also injured, Anthony Edwards wasn’t 100% & Donte Divencenzo was out. OKC still pushed them to 7 games & Timberwolves lasted 6 games.

Spurs won’t bounce back just because they’re expected to. They have to take it. That’s what the Knicks did in San Antonio. Spurs have the rotation to do it, but they’ll have to prove it to me. I could be wrong, but I’m backing the team that seems to be an unstoppable force. The team that’s built to win now, not tomorrow. The team that’s somehow still being disrespected.

What about the actual matchup in game 3 tonight? The Knicks have already displayed their resilience in inverse scenarios so far this series. They came back from a 14-point deficit in game 1, dominating in the 2nd half. In game 2 (picture above) they led by 14 points, before the Spurs stormed back to take a 1 point lead late in the 4th quarter. The Knicks won game 2 late by winning the turnover battle.

We all know about the defensive brilliance they possess in their starting lineup, but their bench has been outstanding in the playoffs defensively this season. Miles McBride & Landry Shamet are elite on-ball defenders and both players rank in the top-10 of individual defensive rating during these playoffs through 16 games. They force turnovers and take a pressure off of Jalen Brunson in aggregate. Spurs bench scoring is down in this series as a result.

Stephon Castle has been an elite playmaker for the Spurs for most of the season, but he’s looked human so far in this series. I expect him to break out at some point, possibly tonight, but I don’t think he’ll get back on track consistently enough to swing this series back in his teams favour. His assist-to-turnover ratio has been poor in the finals, probably due to his inexperience. He’s still such a young player. He’s definitely a future all-star, but there’s a ton of pressure on him tonight individually to get back to the level playmaking we’re accustomed to seeing from him (see image above).

I’m rolling with the Knicks again tonight. It will be a difficult environment for the Spurs to play well in. I think we’ll witness an efficient Jalen Brunson offensive performance. Knicks won game 2 with Brunson being average offensively for much of the game. Best of luck & enjoy the game!
